A week of Home Page feature highlights!

by Home Page – September 8, 2018

The Weekly Highlights are a great way to catch up, but don’t forget that you can always watch the full stories from either our front page or the archives section.

Panthers shutout Athens in home opener
Mikah Kolb rushed for three touchdowns and Brent Burleigh threw for two more as the North Penn-Mansfield Panthers rebounded from a 51-6 week one loss to Montoursville to shutout Athens 42-0 on Friday, August 31.

“I told the kids last week we had to put that game behind us,” said Panther head coach Tom Dickinson. “Everything went wrong that could and we did. Defense played outstanding in shutting them out and the offense kept their offense off the field and kept moving it, and finished plays we they needed to so I was very pleased.”
UPMC Susquehanna – Sports Health
It’s hard to believe summer is over. Many student athletes have been busy all summer long preparing for the return to fall sports and as local schools are now back in session, students are taking to the field.

Here today to offer some advice and tips on how to stay healthy and on the field this season is Dr. Donald Golobek from UPMC Susquehanna orthopedics.
NTL Golf Highlights at Corey Creek
The Wellsboro Golf team continued their undefeated NTL season on Tuesday, September 4 by capturing a 1st place finish at Corey Creek.

The Hornets shot a 322 team score to pick up their third consecutive win of the season, and head coach Steve Macensky’s 102nd career win. Northern Tioga (336) finished 2nd, North Penn-Mansfield (382) was 3rd, Athens (398) was 4th, Sayre (399) was 5th, and Towanda (438) rounded out the field in 6th.
Tomatoes, Onions, and Peppers, Oh my!
Penn State Extension is hosting classes on home food preservation. Another round of classes will be held in Mansfield and Wellsboro in October on “Introduction to Preserving.” Master Food Preserver, Kim Furry, discusses the basics of home preservation in this introductory class. Important things such as determining the safe and appropriate processing method based on the acidity of the food item, are covered. Safe recipes, selecting and inspecting equipment, boiling water processing, pressure canning, atmospheric steam canning, dehydrating, air drying, and fermenting are important things discussed during the class.
Gone Electrofishin’!
Electrofishing is a fascinating subject. Do you know what it is? Well, today on The Home Page Network Sara Vogt joins Biologist and area fisheries Manager of the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, Robert Wunk to discover it’s importance.

Fisheries biologists use electrofishing to sample fish populations in bodies of freshwater as a means of making sure the fish population is healthy and in balance. The biologists catch fish by putting electric current into the water. This process temporarily stuns the fish at which point they will float to the surface. The fish are then placed into tubs and examined.
